Know what's in every box without opening it

A visual grid map for your storage unit. Place boxes, label contents, and find anything in seconds.

Start Mapping

10 × 10 ft Unit

Click an empty cell to place a box. Click a box to edit it.

How to Map Your Storage Unit

1

Set your unit size

Pick from common sizes like 10×10 or enter custom dimensions. The grid adjusts to match your actual unit.

2

Place your boxes

Click empty cells on the grid to drop a box. Choose a color and give it a clear label like "Winter clothes" or "Kids toys."

3

List the contents

Type what's inside each box. One item per line works best. Be specific: "blue mittens" beats "stuff."

4

Print and post

Hit Print Map and tape the page inside your unit door. Now you can find anything without digging.

Common Mistakes

  • Writing on one side only. Label every face of the box so it's readable no matter how it's stacked.
  • Vague labels. "Misc" tells you nothing six months later. Use "Bathroom towels" or "Camping gear."
  • Not updating the map. When you add or remove a box, update the map right away. An outdated map causes more confusion than no map.
  • Ignoring the door side. Place the most-needed boxes near the door and note that on the map.

Scenario: Moving into a New Unit

You just rented a 10×20 unit. Before the truck arrives, open this page and set the grid to 10×20. As each box is carried in, place it on the grid, label it, and list contents. By the time you're done, you have a complete map. When you need the Christmas lights in July, search "Christmas" and the map shows you exactly which box and where it sits.

This takes about two minutes per box during a move. It saves hours of searching later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I save my map?

Your map saves automatically in your browser using local storage. You can also export it as a text file and import it later or on another device.

What if my unit size isn't listed?

Choose "Custom size" and enter your unit's width and depth in feet. The grid will adjust to match.

Can I share my map with someone else?

Export the map as a text file and send it to them. They can import it on this page and see the same layout.

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. The grid and sidebar stack vertically on smaller screens. Search and print work the same way.

Is my data private?

Everything stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. If you clear your browser data, the map is gone unless you exported it.

Can I use this for multiple units?

Export your current map first, then reset the grid and start a new one. You can switch between saved maps by importing the text file for each unit.

Why a Map Beats a List

A spreadsheet of box labels works, but it doesn't tell you where things are in physical space. When you're standing in front of a packed unit, you need to know that the camping gear is in the back left corner, third stack from the floor. A visual grid gives you that spatial reference instantly.
